Navigating NHS Clinical Documentation
This module is designed to help International Medical Graduates develop confidence in one of the most important areas of NHS practice: safe, accurate, and legally sound clinical documentation.
Working in the NHS involves far more than clinical knowledge alone. Doctors are expected to document clearly, communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, understand confidentiality and data protection laws, complete discharge summaries appropriately, recognise when incidents must be reported, and take part in difficult conversations around escalation planning and patient safety.
This module provides a practical introduction to the standards, systems, and medico-legal responsibilities that shape documentation within NHS healthcare settings. It explores real-world NHS processes including ward round documentation, Datix reporting, Duty of Candour, fit notes, death certification, discharge summaries, confidentiality, GDPR, and ReSPECT forms.
The course has been specifically designed for IMGs transitioning into NHS practice who want to better understand how documentation supports patient safety, continuity of care, legal protection, and professional accountability within the UK healthcare system.
